Recommended Route
To make the most of your Mutianyu Night Tour, we recommend the following itinerary.
Take the Cable Car After Arrival
Enter the scenic area around 5:30 PM and head directly to the cable car station. In just four minutes, you’ll reach the Great Wall and enjoy beautiful sunset views before the lights come on.
Walk Between Watchtowers 10 and 12
This section offers some of the best lighting effects and is the most popular area for photos. The illuminated walls create an unforgettable atmosphere after dark.
Reach Watchtower 15
Watchtower 15 is the highest point open during the night tour and offers the best panoramic view of the illuminated Great Wall. It is also a famous filming location from the Chinese movie If You Are the One.
Return Before Closing
Walk back toward the cable car station while enjoying the night scenery. We recommend starting your return around 9:00 PM to avoid rushing before closing time.
Night Activities
Besides walking on the Great Wall, visitors can also enjoy seasonal evening activities.
Interactive Light Shows
Between Watchtowers 12 and 14, interactive lighting installations and laser shows create a magical atmosphere after dark.
Traditional Chinese Performances
On selected weekends and holidays, visitors may enjoy live performances such as:
- Hanfu parades
- Guzheng performances
- Sichuan face-changing shows
- Chinese-style pop bands
Food Street
Near the entrance commercial area, you’ll find:
- Local barbecue
- Beer garden
- Traditional Chinese snacks
- Ice desserts and street food
Travel Tips
To enjoy your Mutianyu Great Wall Tour, we recommend the following.
What to Wear
- Comfortable non-slip walking shoes
- A light jacket, as temperatures on the mountain are usually about 5°C cooler than downtown Beijing
What to Bring
- Power bank
- Mosquito repellent
- Drinking water
- Light snacks
Food inside the scenic area is available but generally more expensive.
Photography Tips
Light-colored clothing looks great against the illuminated Great Wall. Arriving before sunset also gives you the chance to capture both golden-hour and night views in one visit.
Safety Tips
Some sections have relatively dim lighting. Please watch your step, especially on uneven stairs. Elderly visitors and young children should walk at a comfortable pace.
